The German Reading Room was opened in 1993. The German side provided collections of books, video and audio materials, equipment and subscription to periodicals, while the Library provided the venue, furniture, staff, etc.
At present, the Reading Room collaborates with the regional Russian-German House.
The main objective of the Reading Room is to assist in learning German, to promote the revival and preservation of the ethno-cultural potential of Russian Germans.
The German Reading Room is renowned for its unique collection, comprising about 7,000 authentic books and language games. These are beautifully produced books in various subject areas: history, philosophy, politics, art, literary studies, linguistics, natural sciences and others. The bulk of the collection consists of modern textbooks and fiction in German. The main criterion for selecting materials is their relevance to users.
The Reading Room's collection is openly accessible. Visitors can work with materials in the reading room, and TSU staff and students may borrow items.
The room hosts classes and events related to the German language and the activities of Russian Germans, the German Speaking Club meetings, as well as book displays, presentations, and consultations.
