From the history of the holiday

On February 8, 1724, by the Decree of the emperor Peter I, the order by the governing Senate was issued on the development of Science in the Russian State and the establishment of the Academy of Sciences.

By the 275th anniversary of the Academy’s foundation,  by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, in 1999 it was decided to establish and celebrate the "Day of Russian Science" holiday on February 8.
